What is Pran Pratishtha? A Sacred Ritual for Ram Mandir
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony is a key event in the life of any temple, marking the formal installation of idols and consecrating them with life, which is a process that invokes the spiritual energy into the deities represented by the idols. It is performed to bless the idols and dedicate the temple to divine worship. For the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the second Pran Pratishtha ceremony will be held on June 5, with the formal installation of Ram Darbar and the idols of all eight deities, including Lakshman and Sheshavatar, marking a momentous occasion in the history of Hindu worship.
The ceremony will take place between 11:25 AM and 11:40 AM on June 5, with the installation of the idols taking place during the Abhijeet Muhurat. This auspicious timing has been carefully selected to ensure the most favorable energy for the consecration.
Key Figures and Participants in the Ceremony
According to Champat Rai, the president of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the Pran Pratishtha will be conducted under the leadership of Pandit Jai Prakash from Kashi, along with 101 Vedic scholars and priests who will conduct the sacred rituals. This sacred event is expected to witness a massive turnout of religious leaders, devotees, and dignitaries from various parts of India. Along with Yogi Adityanath, several prominent figures from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and other religious organizations will be in attendance.
In a significant addition, the Sheshavatar idol of Lakshman, though the temple for it is still under construction, will also be consecrated during this event. The Sheshavatar Lakshman Temple is under rapid construction, with the sanctum of the temple being prepared to house the idol in time for the ceremony. The idol of Sheshavatar Lakshman has already arrived at the Ram Janmabhoomi Complex and is temporarily housed in an alternative structure for the time being.
A Historic and Sacred Celebration of Faith
The second Pran Pratishtha ceremony is a continuation of the work initiated during the first installation of Ram Lalla’s idol in January 2024, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has been a long-awaited event, one that has inspired millions of people across the world. This second consecration ceremony will further elevate the sanctity and divine energy of the temple, marking it as a place of spiritual significance for generations to come.
The ceremony will be part of a series of religious events scheduled from June 2 to June 5. On June 2, a significant water pot procession (Kalash Yatra) will begin at 4 PM, where devotees will carry sacred water pots from the old Aarti site to the Yajna Mandap in the Ram Temple complex. This procession will pass through important landmarks like Shringarhath, Hanumangarhi, and Dashrath Mahal before reaching the Ram Temple.
Timeline of Events Leading to the Ceremony
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony is preceded by several religious rites. On June 3, the Yajna Mandap Puja and Agni Sthapana (fire installation ceremony) will begin, followed by Adivas Palaki Yatra on June 4. These rituals will serve as a build-up to the grand Pran Pratishtha ceremony on June 5. The final consecration of the idols will take place at the prescribed time in the Abhijeet Muhurat and the event will culminate with a Purnahuti (completion of the ceremony) at 1 PM.
Other Notable Features of the Ceremony
Along with the Ram Darbar, the ceremony will also focus on the idols of Lakshman and other deities who are integral to the Ramayan and the Ram Mandir’s sanctity. The Sheshavatar Temple, although still under construction, will have its sanctum prepared in time for the idol’s consecration. The ongoing construction of the Sheshavatar Lakshman Temple has been a priority, and despite some parts of the temple being incomplete, it will be ready for the ceremony.
Gold Work on Temple Domes Nearing Completion
Amid the ongoing Ram Mandir construction, the work of gold plating the temple’s domes is nearly complete. According to reports, the main temple’s spire has been adorned with gold, while the kalash (water pot) on the six temples within the temple complex is also being plated in gold. Construction workers have been working tirelessly with strong support structures to ensure that the task is completed on schedule.
Sheshavatar Lakshman Temple’s spire will also be gilded with gold as per the original design. The project director for L&T, VK Mehta, has assured that all necessary works will be completed by May 30, ahead of the June 5 ceremony. The efforts put into the gold work highlight the dedication to both tradition and grandeur that the Ram Mandir represents.
Security and Arrangements for the Event
Given the massive significance of this event, security arrangements will be tightened in Ayodhya for the ceremony. Local law enforcement agencies, along with additional security forces, will ensure that the event is conducted smoothly and without any disturbances. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the event, and special arrangements have been made for crowd management, ensuring that all attendees have a safe and pleasant experience.
